Debbie Powell
Biography
Debbie is a studio potter and painter. She has been producing and exhibiting claywork since completing a diploma in craft design in the early 1990s. After a five year stint studying for a Masters degree in New Zealand history, she has recently taken up where she left off, working full-time as an artist from a mountain-view studio in the countryside.
Debbie’s clay-work is hand-built using white earthenware and terracotta clays. A variety of design techniques are used in the decoration, from traditional glazes to enamels, oil stick, graphite and shellac. Her paintings, like her sculptures, betray an unhealthy obsession with detail, but also portray an appreciation for the small and beautiful things in life.
