Situated in the older part of New Plymouth city KINA occupies the street level of the distinctive 1894 Exchange Chambers building (just around the corner from the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery). Established in 1999 to support and nurture Aotearoa designers, craftspeople and artists, KINA showcases not only special one-off objects of beauty but is also a popular destination for affordable gifts that express the individual spirit and style that belongs to New Zealand.
Everything at KINA is New Zealand made

KINA produces a relaxed environment allowing customers to browse and feel welcome, creating both a great shopping experience and offering products that reflect the extraordinary design talent pulsing throughout New Zealand. The gallery space at the rear of the store is reserved for monthly exhibitions by both emerging and established contemporary New Zealand artists, making the space always fresh and exciting.

KINA is now open to shoppers all over the world thanks to the launch of a new on-line shopping website in April 2007. With new products being added monthly it’s worth a regular visit or even better become a Friend of Kina and receive a monthly newsletter about exhibitions and new products. Forget the GST when you let Kina package and post your gifts overseas. Sending New Zealand art overseas sends a message - a sense of identity.

A specialty with the on-line shop is the facility for customers to buy items not listed on the site. It may be something that you’ve seen at the store in New Plymouth, a replacement for a lost earring or a must have piece of art work that we can source for you. All it takes is an email or phone call.
Owner Luella Raj and the staff have built a reputation for their exceptional service; “we love to gift wrap! The giving and unwrapping of the gift is almost as important as the gift itself. We take great pleasure in being the promoters of quality New Zealand-made art and designware. There is enjoyment from selling handmade works. It's a much personalised exchange involving the artist, ourselves and the person who takes the piece away to enjoy in their own space".
